newsOct 24, 202621886

Shellie Flockhart, a Dallas Center city council member who appears in a Congressional Leadership Fund GOP ad accusing Iowa Democratic House candidate Sarah Trone Garriott of endangering children, pleaded guilty to child endangerment and driving under the influence for a 2017 incident in which authorities said she drove intoxicated with two of her children in the car. The Washington Post reported that a preliminary breath test showed a blood alcohol content of .254 and a jail test showed .192. Flockhart, identified in reporting as 55 years old, entered the guilty plea after the 2017 arrest. The revelations prompted coverage pointing out the contrast between Flockhart's role warning about child safety in the ad and her own criminal conviction. The GOP ad has been described in reporting as having run into trouble because of Flockhart's conviction.
