Oregon Ducks suffer frustrating loss, fans call for changes

sportsOct 24, 202634219

After Oregon's loss to Illinois, which included a missed field goal and an Illinois touchdown that put Oregon down 21-10, long‑time supporters demanded immediate staff changes. Multiple posts called Drew Mehringer incompetent and urged his firing, with several writers saying Dan Lanning should take playcalling away from the offensive coordinator. Commenters criticized below‑average quarterback play and “very questionable” offensive playcalling that they said was wasting a strong defense, and some urged benching Raiola or inserting Akili Smith Jr. One post labeled the missed field goal attempt “coaching malpractice.” Lanning had said there would be changes after the UCLA game, and these posts specifically pressed him to act now by removing playcalling duties or bringing in an offensive consultant. A few voices singled out the punter as the game’s best performer amid widespread disappointment in the offense and season trajectory.

I have decades of history as a Duck fan and I've never seen a team underperform like this one. It's beyond my comprehension. #GoDucks

YES. This is easily the most underperformed oregon team probably ever.

For all the people who criticized Tosh and Stein, this shows what really good coordinators do for you. I think Chris Hampton has done a good as the season has gone on. Drew Mehringer is not the answer. Raiola’s mechanics are awful.

May be the most disappointing season in Oregon football history.

Yikes. Another Illinois TD and that's the game, bareing a major miracle. Oregon trails 21-10. We are officially not a good football team this year and it's very disappointing, given the roster. Still, it's always: ScoDucks #goducks

Below average QB play and very questionable offensive play calls are going to waste a really good defense this season. It’s stunning #GoDucks

What do you suppose Dan Lanning meant when he said there would be changes after UCLA?? #goducks

If someone would’ve told me at the beginning of the year, the ducks would be this bad .. I would’ve called them a liar and slapped them.

My unfortunate takeaway as an Oregon football fan this season is that sadly, a lot of our fans actually do not deserve to see a championship in their lifetimes

What’s the harm in playing Akili Smith Jr at this point? The season is over. #GoDucks

I'm sorry but Lanning has to take play calling away from our OC after this game. Find an "offensive consultant" from literally anywhere and it will be an upgrade, maybe salvage a couple games this season. This is just pure incompetence. #goducks
