BC Green leader Emily Lowan, 26, has won the Vancouver Island riding of Saanich North and the Islands, with Elections BC preliminary results showing 3,348 votes for Lowan. Lowan was named leader of the BC Greens in September 2025, succeeding Sonia Furstenau, a win that made her Canada’s youngest major political party leader. She defeated NDP candidate Kala Bryson, Conservative Ryan Windsor and CentreBC’s Richard Smith. The Greens now hold two seats in the B.C. legislature; the party also retained West Vancouver‑Sea to Sky, where incumbent Jeremy Valeriote had 9,448 votes at the time of publication. The BC Greens campaigned on economic fairness and climate action and proposed policies including vacancy control, a provincially owned grocery chain and wealth taxes on fortunes over $50 million. Lowan said she would fight against healthcare cuts while supporting the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.
