US forces 'ready to strike Iran within 96 hours' if Trump orders it

newsOct 26, 20264349

Two US officials told CNN that US forces in the Middle East are prepared to launch a major attack on Iran within 96 hours of an order from President Donald Trump. Officials said any such operation would be "a big effort," exceeding prior strikes on quickly replaceable Iranian assets like missile launchers and radars. One source told CNN that Israel had been preparing to strike Iran and lobbied the US for a joint operation, but US officials instructed Israel to hold off, likely until after the November 3 midterm elections. Two other sources told CNN that US intelligence assesses Iran and the Houthi movement are taking the threat seriously and that any US or Israeli attack would prompt immediate retaliation against US personnel and facilities in the region. The sources said US planners expect to reduce embassy staffing in the region and that the Pentagon described its role as developing and executing military options ordered by the president. The White House declined to comment to CNN on the report.
