After BioWare's closure and the loss of a new Mass Effect project, a Change.org petition calling to Save Mass Effect passed 200,000 signatures, with Commander Shepard actor Mark Meer urging supporters to "hold the line." Much of the conversation centers on Commander Shepard and N7, with posts invoking Shepard’s defiant odds and long-run character loyalty as reasons to keep the franchise alive. Supporters have taken concrete actions, from an alleged billboard placed near EA headquarters to calls for the IP to be sold to another steward rather than remain with EA. Threads also mix grief for laid-off developers with insistence that the series deserves a future beyond the studio closure.
