Jackson Chourio and Brice Turang ignited an eight-run fifth and the Milwaukee Brewers crushed the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 in Game 3, moving within one win of the franchise's first World Series title. Rookie left-hander Robert Gasser allowed a one-out single to Yandy Díaz in the first and then retired 14 straight, facing the minimum through six innings; he is the first starter to face the minimum through six in a World Series game since Curt Schilling in 2001 and the first lefty to do it since Sandy Koufax in 1965. Milwaukee collected 16 hits, with Chourio going 4 for 5 and William Contreras 3 for 5, and produced a postseason-record seven straight hits with two outs in the fifth. The inning featured a replay-overturned forceout on Junior Caminero, Turang's two-run play that rolled through shortstop Taylor Walls, and run-producing hits by Garrett Mitchell, Cooper Pratt, Sal Frelick, David Hamilton, and Chourio. Gasser has allowed one run in 15 innings over three postseason starts, and the Brewers extended their streak to eight straight postseason wins and four straight road victories. The Brewers, originally the Seattle Pilots in 1969 before moving to Milwaukee in 1970, previously lost the 1982 World Series in seven games to St. Louis; led by 67-year-old manager Pat Murphy, Milwaukee needs one more win to end the franchise drought. Historically, 43 major league teams have trailed 3-0 in a best-of-seven series and only the 2004 Boston Red Sox recovered to win four straight, while of 25 teams that led 3-0 in World Series play, 21 completed sweeps and four closed it in five games.
