Neil Young filed a $10 million copyright lawsuit Monday against the Trump 47 Committee, saying the committee played Young’s song “Rockin’ in the Free World” without a license before President Donald Trump took the stage at an October 12 midterm rally in Youngstown, Ohio. The complaint, filed in Virginia federal court, is Young’s second legal action over the song and comes six years after a prior settlement over the same track. Young’s filing alleges the committee lacks permission or a license to use the song and quotes him saying “The song is the opposite of everything that Donald J. Trump stands for.” The suit demands $10 million in damages and pursues the infringement claim through the federal courts.
