Bryan Adams released the single "Lake Ontario," a pointed protest song taking direct aim at US president Donald Trump and his August executive order to rename Lake Ontario "Lake America." Adams accuses Trump in the lyrics of "breaking the peace" between residents on the lake's shores and frames the name as rooted in Indigenous language, quoting the Iroquois phrase "the lake of shining waters." The song also suggests the renaming stunt was meant to distract from troubles including the war in Iran and renewed scrutiny of the Jeffrey Epstein files. Adams posted "Lake Ontario is forever" on his website after releasing the track. The single is part of an album project titled How's It Goin', which Adams describes as a "love letter" to Canada and follows the July 1 release of the Trump-repudiating song "51st State." Canada's reaction has been largely derisive toward the renaming move, and Adams said live audiences gave "51st State" standing ovations, reinforcing his decision to expand the Canadian-themed album.
