Abdul El‑Sayed and Haley Stevens clash over Israel ad ahead of Michigan rally

Days before a planned Detroit rally where they were to appear with Rep. Jim Clyburn, former primary rivals Abdul El-Sayed and Rep. Haley Stevens exchanged sharp statements over an outside progressive ad from Rebellion PAC that Stevens called antisemitic. Stevens said the grocery-store ad falsely blames Israel and the war in Gaza for rising U.S. prices and demanded El-Sayed formally condemn it and apologize for related comments; she also urged him to pull an ad of his that featured Tucker Carlson. El-Sayed, who is not affiliated with Rebellion PAC, said his campaign had already distanced itself from the ad and accused Stevens of relitigating the August primary, noting his campaign beat $70 million in outside spending backing Stevens, including from AIPAC. Stevens told CNN she would vote the Democratic ticket and signaled she would vote for the nominee while still pressing El-Sayed to denounce the Rebellion PAC ad; her fiancé, Jason Turkish, told The Detroit News he is voting for Republican Mike Rogers. The exchange comes four days before Michigan voters choose their next U.S. senator in a race the Cook Political Report rates as a toss-up, and representatives for both did not confirm whether they will still appear together Sunday.
