Aston Villa to take legal action against Jamie Carragher

sportsOct 31, 202620192

Aston Villa announced they will initiate legal action against former England defender Jamie Carragher after what the club described as "unacceptable insults" toward the club and their supporters in a statement signed by chairman Nassef Sawiris. Carragher told the Stick to Football podcast he thought Unai Emery "would want that opportunity to manage a giant again" and said "Aston Villa will never be Manchester United," comments Villa said amounted to insults. The club added it would "not allow anyone to stop our ascension in English and European football." Carragher, 48, who works as a pundit for Sky Sports and CBS, later said telling Villa fans to "shut up" had been "a joke" and expanded on his praise for Emery on the Overlap Daily, calling Emery "the best manager in the league." The comments followed media discussion that Manchester United manager Michael Carrick's position was uncertain after a poor start to the season, which Carragher referenced when speculating Emery might be of interest to United.
