Reeves says UK's future should be inside the EU
"I do believe Britain’s future lies in the European Union." Reeves declares for rejoin, perhaps the most senior figure in Labour to do so www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/...
Seriously, why not say this as Chancellor. At least some people might’ve liked her.
It has been quite the three-year journey for the keeper of the euro-agnostic flame in opposition www.economist.com/britain/2024...
She joins the huge list of politicians who develop principles and the ability to think after they have left office and whose new found enlightment is of no benefit to the rest of us.
A late arrival at the Rejoin ball. Being a politician should never involve saying things only when you judge that the Overton window has shifted far enough to put them centre frame. That’s just cowardice.
The argument has already been made. There is a consensus that the economic damage caused by Brexit could be reversed by rejoining. Also having an untrustworthy “ally” across the Atlantic strengthens that argument.
🇬🇧 Just another LABOUR hypocrite who believes that the people of England should have the opportunity to vote to rejoin the EU, but that the people of Scotland should never be permitted to have a referendum on Scottish independence 🏴🇪🇺😎
Former chancellor Rachel Reeves has said she believes Britain should rejoin the EU as Brexit has made the country “poorer, weaker and less secure”. Brexit can no longer be the unspeakable subject. #RejoinEU
So far Brexit has devoured 6 prime ministers. Each one (with exception of Cameron) believed they could make it work. They all failed. Burnham is making the right noises but it needs action as well. I hope he takes heed.
Pity she wasn't as vocal about it when she was Chancellor.
But she said nothing of the sort while she was in the cabinet. Chocolate teapot springs to mind.
Funny that now she is a "former" Chancellor, she sees this, when before, when she had ALL the access to data, she never mentioned it. What next? Bawbag Johnson "this Covid thing might be a problem"?
Always clarity of fkn thought in retrospect! The system seems to hobble them when at the tiller. Can only say what they really think after the fact.
Former Chancellor Rachel Reeves has argued the UK's future should be inside the EU, and that Brexit has made the country "poorer, weaker and less secure" www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Oh they’ve all found their voice now?
Then she should have said so while in government. Usual crap.. Worried about their seats so do the opposite of what's best for the UK.
Some are critical that only now they've found their voice. In fairness it's all about timing. There's been none so slow as Joe public. Reeves has generally always been Pro EU. Starmer, free from his constraints, is also more vocal now. As for Burnham, he's lucky & has the public mostly onboard.
2026: The Times, "Britain's future is in the EU, says Rachel Reeves" 2022: Rachel Reeves, "You've got to make Brexit work"
Imagine she would have supported the EU as chancellor, she would have boosted the economy and maybe now she would have been still in the job she loved in No11
"Make Brexit work"... 😒 Like saying; "Roll shit in glitter, and make it taste nice.."
People can change their minds can't they? Even some Reform and Tory voters have seen the light.
It's as if there's been a change of PM!
Either 2022 - thought supporting brexit would win power 2026 - thinks supporting rejoin would keep them in power Or............ We have a government prepared to lead.
I think we all knew what the Labour Cabinet really thought, hence the closer ties with EU. They were too concerned about Reform/Cons (essentially the same party) and the influence of the right wing media. The public are now increasingly backing the idea of rejoining the EU.
The establishment parties change their tune to suit. #Burnham is known to be Mr Flip-flop, frequently changing between #Labour #left & Labour #right. We don't have strong leaders & govts, we have chancers, bluffers & grifters.
Suxh opportunists. ~ Rachel Reeves calls for UK to rejoin EU: ‘Brexit has made us poorer, weaker and less secure’ | The Independent ~ https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brexit-rachel-reeves-rejoin-eu-europe-brussels-andy-burnham-b3076971.html
Don't remember Reeves being quite so pro-EU as Chancellor. Has she found her nerve or is she just jumping on the bandwagon? www.standard.co.uk/news/politic...
Bandwagon. But at least the bandwagon’s heading in the right direction.
Something I really hate is politicians who become very vocal on an issue, when they’re no longer able to do anything about it…
Either way, it's good for the Pro-EU debate.

I don't trust her at all.
I suspect she's thought so at least since becoming the chancellor of the exchequer. And found her voice since Burnham burnt the Brexit Myth. It's still the rest of Labour that worry me, the party is divided. Although, I was surprised at Healy.
