Kamala Harris back on campaign trail

Former vice-president Kamala Harris returned to the campaign trail this week, drawing a rapt welcome at Clark Atlanta University where she told students, "Don’t ever let anybody take your power from you." Two years after her 107-day 2024 presidential bid ended in defeat, Harris says she has not yet decided whether to run for the 2028 Democratic nomination while spending the last month campaigning for other Democrats in the midterm elections. Harris held a high school rally in Columbus, Mississippi, and joined a rural healthcare roundtable in Clarksdale while campaigning for Scott Colom in a surprisingly close race in the historically Republican state. In October she met unionized culinary workers in Las Vegas while campaigning for Nevada attorney general Aaron Ford in a toss-up governor’s race, and she has also stumped for David Crowley in Wisconsin, Chris Pappas in New Hampshire, and Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan. The visits are part of an effort to recultivate relationships after the 2024 campaign and to bolster Democrats in competitive midterm contests as the party continues to debate its path forward under Donald Trump’s return to national politics.
