Trump faces pressure over Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's future
the funny thing is Trump has made himself so toxic than even if he wanted to fire Hegseth and replace him with Ron DeSantis, why would DeSantis want any part of that shit sandwich? Especially when he's clearly tilling the soil for a presidential run where he'll be running against the administration
Can’t wait for Secretary of Defense Kid Rock.
desantis has been involved in some massive corruption scandals and like wants the legal protections being a cabinet official affords
Make Barron Trump Secretary of Defense
Ron desantis stole $10 million from Florida taxpayers and made the first concentration torture camp during the maga movement. He also aligns with Nazis
What's the odds haley stevens ends up somewhere in the trump admin before the whole thing is over? Seems like the right level of unhinged to go for something so toxic?
Because DeSantis is a bottom feeder. He named an airport after Trump for christs sake.
Now we are getting actual sources leaking Trump wants Hegseth to replace Blackburn in the Senate during the lame-duck…..so the madman truly wants an historic rebuke across the South??? Justin Pearson, time to be Democratic Senator #57!!
Didn't republicans just learn taht trump is no good at picking Senators!?
truly a stroke of political genius to put the pariah architect of the administration’s worst policy blunder on the ballot in 2028
This would be an all time historic bad decision. Hegseth has so much baggage that a decent Dem campaign can take him down in 28
Update from Jake Sherman: Sources from Blackburn denied the report that Hegseth is being considered for Senate
Blackburn barely won (45% plurality winning by 2 points when she won by 29 points 2 years ago) and this is the foot she’s going to lead off with?
this gives absolutely no path for Justin Pearson. What are you even talking about?
Again your not getting anyone confirmed if this is the case
You know why he wants the appointment though? His wife genuinely has gotten to his head about him being President
lmao taylor run for senate in 28 against Pete
another aspect of this is that offering up a sacrificial lamb for starting an unpopular war only really works if you’re not, from there… continuing the war, unpopularly
I think Hegseth is hated by enough of the GOP for his role in the apocalyptic (for them) mid-terms that the Dems could probably find the 11 Republican Senators needed to expel him from the chamber if he gets appointed.
bro you JUST lost South Carolina by playing skeevy appointment games this would piss off Fucking Everybody do you WANT a twenty percent approval rating
I think the GOP should definitely do as many things exactly this like as they can think of
Hegseth/Hawley losing to Ossoff/Ocasio-Cortez 400-135 in 2028
a democrat running against pete hegseth would get an unfathomable amount of small donor dollars
It's no secret Glenn Jacobs has been wanting and working to replace Marsha Blackburn in the U.S. Senate when she becomes Tennessee Governor. He was even her campaign treasurer. He's also been loyal to Trump. I believe Jacobs wants to be president. His path isn't as direct if he gets passed over.
The notion that Trump would get anyone confirmed before January besides someone like Mike Turner seems farcical to me. ANd I repeat my suggestion that the @adamkinzinger.substack.com types try to suggest someone of that ilk. www.axios.com/2026/11/05/h...
Regarding the lame duck window, a window existing at all assumes Congress will be in session, which, given the House's record this year, is a shaky assumption.
I mean, we all watched Mitch McConnell ram through Barrett’s nom in late October while voting was already happening. I don’t know why folks would doubt the GOP would do anything (calling special sessions, etc) to ram through noms (cabinet or SC) before the axe falls
@schumer.senate.gov is going to insist we Return To Normal and command Democrats to approve most of his nominees after January. I would love to be wrong.
Except will new Senate expel Him from the Senate ?
Suspect we’ll have two years of “actings”
Donald Trump has shown us that he doesn't need Senate approval to make appointments. He's perfectly content to have people in "acting" roles for extended periods of time or to leave the Senate-confirmed position empty and appoint someone to the assistant position to be the actual leader.
So between how toxic working for Trump is right now and how high the bar for confirmation is going to be in the next Senate... do we just have unfilled cabinet positions for 2 years? Like who would agree to replace Hegseth and Rubio that you can get 7 Dems to vote for??
Secretary of Defense, I can see a relatively non-partisan general working out as a compromise between everyone. But State? Who in the fuck are you getting to fill that job?
Replacing his cabinet against his will with a bunch of minders would be a really funny move
Marco Rubio is about to be in Hell with 17 jobs.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has authorized the National Guard to begin using boats, several dozen marked police cars, humvees and light medium tactical vehicles in Washington, DC.
There is simply no good reason for doing this. They are doing this solely because they can and no one can make them stop. It’s not fair to the people of DC, and it’s not fair to the Guard. As a 250 year-old document says governments are instituted among men to secure the rights of the governed.
MFers are just itching for a fight. As many of us have been saying for a while - be prepared for anything.
Outrageous, offensive, abusive, and stupid. Thank god they’re not doing law enforcement 🙄🙄
