Report: Trump lashed out at Stephen Miller after Melania complained

newsNov 5, 202618310

President Donald Trump publicly rebuked Stephen Miller after first lady Melania Trump complained that people she knew were being deported under the administration’s aggressive immigration campaign, the Wall Street Journal reported and The Independent summarized. The first lady told Trump Miller had gone “too far,” prompting the president to hit out at his deputy White House chief of staff and immigration architect. The clashes followed high-profile immigration raids in Minnesota and the January 24 Border Patrol shooting of ICU nurse Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, an episode Miller called a “domestic terrorist” and an “assassin.” The administration also faced controversy after ICE killed Renee Good; Miller has been named a defendant in a lawsuit brought by Good’s family. The Journal reported Melania joined discussions in March with chief of staff Susie Wiles and other advisers about resetting the administration after the violence. The Independent noted the disputes came after Republicans suffered a poor midterm showing and a reported loss of Hispanic support, and that Melania has taken visible policy roles recently, including brokering a ceasefire in Oleshky and planning a White House meeting for Ukrainian and Russian officials.
