Tesla to wind down Cybertruck production at Texas Gigafactory

techNov 6, 202663420

Tesla will wind down Cybertruck production at its Texas Gigafactory around mid-2027, CEO Elon Musk said, to clear factory floor space for the company’s planned Cybercab robotaxis. Reuters and other outlets report the move follows weaker-than-expected deliveries since the Cybertruck’s 2023 launch and multiple recalls and quality issues cited by coverage. Coverage cites sales estimates ranging from about 45,000 units in total to analyst reports putting cumulative deliveries under 70,000 since launch, well below Musk’s earlier target of roughly 250,000 vehicles per year. Kelley Blue Book data published in reporting shows U.S. Cybertruck sales fell to 20,237 last year, down 48 percent from 38,965 in 2024. Tesla groups Cybertruck with other low-volume models in its disclosures and has been throttling production to manage inventory, according to reporting. The company says the Texas factory space will be reallocated to the Cybercab program, marking a shift in Tesla’s factory priorities toward autonomous-vehicle initiatives.
