Ukraine held ceremonies in Kyiv to mark the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster as President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of "nuclear terrorism" and deadly new drone strikes struck parts of the country. During the Kyiv commemoration, Zelensky and Moldova's President Maia Sandu said both countries have met requirements to open EU accession clusters and urged Brussels to start membership talks without delay. The International Atomic Energy Agency warned that the war raises acute nuclear safety and security risks around Ukrainian facilities, underscoring why protecting reactor sites and accelerating political and diplomatic support matters for regional safety.
