Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid merge parties to challenge Netanyahu

politicsApr 27, 202617844

Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid announced today they will merge their parties into a single faction to challenge Benjamin Netanyahu in Israel's 2026 election. Bennett will lead the new grouping, combining his right-leaning support with Lapid's centrist base, and both men previously served as prime minister under a rotation agreement. The alliance reunites the two leaders who briefly removed Netanyahu from power in 2021 and seeks to reshape the anti-Netanyahu vote. If the pact holds, it could alter coalition math and make it harder for Netanyahu to form a parliamentary majority.
