GOP senators lose confidence in Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth
A growing group of Republican senators say they lack confidence in Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth after the ousters of Army Chief of Staff Randy George and Navy Secretary John Phelan. Some GOP senators aligned with Ohio Senator J.D. Vance cite the "hollowing out of incredible leadership at the Pentagon" as a central reason for their concerns. The erosion of support raises the prospect of tougher Senate oversight and could constrain Hegseth’s authority as the Pentagon manages ongoing operations and senior leadership turnover.
Unnamed GOP senators connected to JD Vance are losing confidence in Pete Hegseth after ousters of Army Chief of Staff Randy George & Navy Secretary John Phelan. “The hollowing out of incredible leadership at the Pentagon has been a big concern,” said one GOP senator.
This implies that they had confidence in him in the first place. That would be their biggest mistake.
I’d love to know why they had confidence in him in the first place.
The GOP senators are the ones that confirmed Hegseth. Perhaps they should have done a little bit more deliberation before their decision. It didn’t appear like they did much at the time. Common people with common sense thought better.
A big concern? Man, that’s strong language.
