Zach Cregger's Resident Evil, teaser trailer and set details
Zach Cregger released the first teaser for his new Resident Evil movie, and he confirms the story is set during the Raccoon City outbreak. The production leans heavily on practical horror, using massive effects work including one-ton zombie puppets and hiding video-game Easter eggs throughout sets and props. Cregger frames this as a different take from previous adaptations, and the film opens September 18, making it notable for its focus on physical creature design and a fresh approach to the series.
The reason Leon has bad posture in Resident evil requiem..
TBH I’m surprised Leon can still walk at this point Dudes fallen on his back so many times, on top of just letting people use him as a literal step stool, along with jumping out of windows in RE4 into a tuck and roll. Leon is allowed to shrimp out 🩵💜 (Last comic I did!)
Twink death by piggy back rides.
Well, that and he was dying from the T-virus...

Conflicted here because this clearly looks VERY good an possibly the first actually good RE movie ever (no, the Alice movies were not good). On the other hand it clearly has zero to do with the game series. How hard is it to just make an actual adaptation that is good, it’s been around 30 years now
Damn. This looks legit af. Old school RE vibes.
I don’t understand why they couldn’t just make this a new IP instead of using the RE name since it has nothing to do with it. I’m feeling conflicted with this.
Please take the Spider-Man, Silent Hill and Resident Evil franchises away from Sony.
Looks really good. As an early impression, this doesn't really feel like RE to me. But I'm hoping for the movie to prove me wrong.
Time for him to do Pragmata next
I trust cregger here bsky.app/profile/mono...
This looks really good why couldn't they make welcome to racoon city like this
Resident Evil movie trailer looks super promising. Love that Cregger seems to be going for the vibe that makes those classic games work (trap a bitch in a weird ass place and have them solve puzzles and pick up equipment to progress) rather than just “hey it’s that thing you know”
"I wish the movie had Resident Evil characters in it" did you miss the cameo from my best friend, Shotgun?
Its baffling to me the number of people Ive seen whining about this saying that it doesnt feel like RE, or that it shouldve been an adaptation of the game story... i swear these people just want to be pointing at the screen going "i know that thing!" the entire runtime
He did say at one point that was his goal, not wanting to just do something like retell Leon Kennedy’s story because the games ARE Leon’s story Good to see he’s actually following through with it
We can only hope the new protag doesn't become a Bryan sandwich.
truly crazy to me that the zach cregger resident evil movie of all things has some kind of overblown nerd rage controversy because it doesn't star a character from the games when RE is a series literally known for changing protagonists from game to game
it's crazy too because we just had a resident evil movie that directly adapted one of the games and it fucking sucked
“Story told through the POV of a completely new person while RE2 was going on” was the premise of RE: Outbreak and I am here for it
Was Alice in any of the games?
It's weird when we literally already had a movie series where the protag was some new made-up character. Like don't get me wrong, I love Leon, Jill, and the others but the RE universe can offer so many stories. It's fine if we're not following them.
Mario fans: Can we please get a Mario movie with an actual story instead of just nonstop references like they're jingling keys in our faces? Resident Evil fans: You mean you don't want nonstop jingling keys?! That's practically how I get up in the morning!
a lot of Resident Evil fans are haveing an accident because the new movie doesn’t have Leon or whatever, meaning it’s not a “good adaptation.” i am begging people to learn that to adapt literally means to change
i get a little annoyed when people talk about adaptations (of anything, not just games) being “faithful” because, again, change is inherent to the act of adaptation
these guys are gonna fall over dead when they find out the Resident Evil games that are mostly different from one another
They did a straight up Leon movie as a CG film and it was not very good, I'd much rather see what Zach Cregger is cooking up (also, the teaser looked really good).
I wonder what the venn diagram looks like of guys who wish Disney would step outside the star wars original trilogy time period and guys who get mad when they don't see Leon in RE
I'm fine with the new Resident Evil movie. I've enjoyed Cregger's other movies, and think that trying to do a full adaptation of any of the games in that serious would devolve into an incredibly tedious and convoluted genre pastiche really quickly
Because that's ultimately what the stories of those games are, and it's a lot less compelling when you're not experiencing it firsthand.
I watched this interview & it's clear that he loves the source but he also isn't going to be constrained by the lore. He talks about how good it feels in the games to find a better gun & the frustration of finding a locked door & how he's trying to translate that into film: youtu.be/D_FMSyTWmA8
