Spirit Airlines ceases operations and enters liquidation

financeMay 2, 202693134

Spirit Airlines ceased all operations and canceled all flights after negotiations with the U.S. government over a $500 million bailout collapsed. The budget carrier, ending 34 years of service, entered liquidation and said customer service is no longer available, leaving about 15,000 employees affected. Rising oil prices tied to the U.S.-Iran war and other financial pressures pushed the airline into insolvency, making Spirit the first U.S. airline casualty of that conflict and reshaping the low‑cost travel landscape.
