U.S. gas prices jump as Iran war and supply issues push averages above $4

financeMay 2, 2026293,415

The U.S. average price for regular gasoline jumped to about $4.433 per gallon on Saturday, rising roughly 35 cents from a week earlier. The surge reflects Iran's blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and a string of refinery outages that tightened supplies and pushed crude and wholesale fuel costs higher. California prices hit as high as $7.50 per gallon in parts of Los Angeles, and some states saw weekly increases measured in the tens of cents. Higher pump prices will raise household transportation costs, add upward pressure on inflation, and could prompt more oil imports or policy responses.

Holy moly! 77% of Americans blame Trump for soaring gas prices — higher than Bush (71%), Obama (64%) or Biden (70%). Crosses ALL party lines: 95% Democrats, 82% Independents and 55% Republicans blame Trump! 64% say the Iran war is NOT worth higher prices. #TrumpsGasCrisis

Not so average hoser 🇺🇦🇨🇦25

Serious question: WTF is wrong with the other 23%?!

experimental22.bsky.social18

Really, this one should be 100%. It’s as obvious as the giraffe in the cognitive assessment that Trump likes to brag that he aced.

lyndapole9

Only 77% it should be 100%

Obearwan_Kenobi8

The other 23% only listen to FOX News

News should mention that the average price of diesel is $5.35/gal - and we ALL pay for that one because most everything everyone buys got to them or to the store on a truck, a diesel electric train and/or a marine diesel powered cargo ship.

That 45% of Republicans who don't blame Trump must be some special kind of stupid

Jeff Jones 🇨🇦🇺🇸🍻5

I mean, it is directly his fault. With Biden you could at least blame Russia attacking Ukraine. That was outside his control. But Trump attacked Iran which directly resulted in gas prices getting where they are now.

Ecoprairiepainter5

Neither Bush, Obama not Biden actually closed the Strait of Hormuz . That’s how fucking stupid this prez is!

Holding Onto Hope5

They’ll still vote for Republicans. It’s all about their hate.

evadtsujevad.bsky.social4

MAGA types are seriously not happy with the gas prices or the war. They hate the gas prices and the gas companies along with Trump. They are pissed about the war because they think we should have carpet bombed them day 1 and Trump is being an idiot.

Climate News4

Who are the morons bringing the 100% down to 77%?

Angie3

I got the 100 piece "I did that" stickers. Been leaving them on the grocery store shelves and of course at the gas pumps.

Stockholm Fella3

Is this how it's going to be in the strait for the coming years? Trump posting pictures of himself as Jesus and Iran trolling with Lego movies while no gas or oil passes through Hormuz? What’s the plan? Are the 5 000 troops Trump is pulling from Germany going straight to Iran?

Joy🦋💙🇺🇦🫶3

And the oil and gas corporations are making big bucks!

mr-yoyito.bsky.social3

Wait until it’s August and they are still up.

John Ignatius Riley2

At the risk of sounding redundant, could someone please give me an argument for why he’s not responsible for higher gas prices?

On a call today, the CEO of Exxon said gas prices are going to go even higher. Talking about the Iran War, he said "the market hasn't seen the full impact of that yet." And when the war ends, he said it'll take 3-5 years to get back up to speed in some countries, like Qatar.
