Nintendo to raise Switch 2 price to $499 in US this fall
Nintendo will raise the U.S. retail price of the Switch 2 by $50 to $499 starting September 1. Prices for the Switch 2 in Canada and across the European Union will also increase this fall, adjusting local MSRPs. At $499 the Switch 2 now sits alongside other premium consoles, raising the upfront cost for holiday shoppers and changing the economics of bundles, trade-ins, and accessory spending.
Nintendo Switch 2 will price increase starting September 1st: US: $449.99 -> $499.99 Canada: $629.99 -> $679.99 Europe: €469.99 -> €499.99 Japan (May 25): ¥49,980 -> ¥59,980 (multi-language system unchanged) Switch (Japan), NSO (Japan/S. Korea) & Playing Cards (Japan) also get increases
Is what it is, fuck AI. Least the hike isn’t too bad, you have time to save, and software is getting cheaper
Fuck Gen AI and everyone who still uses it, giving Gen AI companies the excuse to hoard all the RAM for themselves, making everything else more expensive. Nintendo doesn’t want these price hikes, nor does Sony and the Xbox brand. Literally no one in the gaming industry likes this.
Direct your anger to OpenAI, Nvidia, Anthropic, and all AI companies that have bought up all the RAM in the world for the next 2 years for data centers that haven’t even been built. Protest data center construction in your states and communities.
Glad I took advantage of the Mario Galaxy deal. If you guys want a switch but it now! It’s the cheapest it’ll ever be.
With everyone else raising prices its was only a matter of time before Nintendo followed them. Also why I upgraded my S2 storage to 1tb recently before those prices skyrocket too.
It was inevitable. But at least they’re giving a 3+ month heads up for folks
Everyone knew this was inevitable since day 1. With Sony and Microsoft raising prices it was only a matter of time. But I am not looking forward to the YouTube hot takes and “I told you Nintendo is evil” videos that are about to be unleashed.
Remember when consoles would get cheaper as they aged?
Yeah this is why I got one despite no games worth getting it for coming out for a while cause knowing the Nordics this €30 will actually be like €100 in our currencies
September 1st? Quite a ways away, wonder why they’re announcing it so far in advance.
AI demand up So is your console.
I just woke up man
Part of me wonders if this has to do with European Union in the sense that they made it where in 2027 electronics are going to be REQUIRED to make batteries easy to be replaced. Especially since it is in production right now, so I could see this version coming September www.ign.com/articles/nin...
Hey, at least they gave plenty of heads up.
$500 is not a good deal no matter how many bells and whistles you put onto your console. You could buy a laptop for so much cheaper at a Microcenter. This is exactly why ya'll should never buy a new console like this as soon as it comes out cause then they get away with pulling shit like this.
I'll be honest, I expected worse. Still sucks tho.
