gamingMay 8, 202622159

Super Mario Bros. Wonder is in the spotlight as Rolling Stone profiles the game's psychedelic 2D visuals and the development team's design choices. Artists and cosplayers are reinterpreting Wonder's color-bending 'Wonder' effects across illustrations, short comics, animatics, and edits. Much of the work centers on Mario, Peach, and Bowser, with recurring set pieces like Bellabel Park and the game's signature transformation moments appearing in stylized key art and short animations. At the same time, longtime Nintendo designer Takashi Tezuka, who produced Wonder, is retiring, and creators are producing tribute pieces and retrospectives of his career.
