Paul Magnier (Soudal-QuickStep) sprinted to victory in the opening stage of the 2026 Giro d'Italia, winning the 147 km Nessebar to Burgas stage and claiming the first Maglia Rosa. A massive crash in the final metres split the peloton; Magnier avoided the pileup and outsprinted a select group to take his first Grand Tour stage win. The race opened on the Black Sea and Magnier's upset over pre-race favorites Jonathan Milan and Dylan Groenewegen reshapes sprint dynamics and the early general classification heading into Stage 2.
