Butterfly Conservation opened the Britain’s Favourite Butterfly poll, asking the public to pick a favourite from 60 UK species through 7 June. The shortlist ranges from common garden species such as the Speckled Wood and Small Copper to rarer species like the Large Heath and the British Swallowtail. The inaugural contest will map favourites by UK nation and raise awareness of conservation priorities, noting that the British Swallowtail is now confined to the Norfolk Broads and threatened by climate change and habitat loss.
