May 15 is Nakba Day, the day of commemoration for the Nakba, also known as the Palestinian Catastrophe, when the Palestinian homeland and society were destroyed by Israeli military forces in 1948. Between 400 and 600 Palestinian villages were destroyed. Most Palestinians were permanently displaced.
