Republican-appointed federal panel rebukes Supreme Court on Alabama map

newsMay 26, 2026344,651

A three-judge federal panel that included two Trump appointees ruled Monday that Alabama’s new congressional map intentionally discriminates against Black voters and violates the Constitution. The panel struck down the enacted plan and said its re-examination in light of the Supreme Court’s Callais decision yields the same conclusion, explicitly writing 'we do not find the issue particularly complex or close.' The decision sends the constitutional question back toward the Supreme Court and carries immediate consequences for Black voters’ ability to elect candidates in Alabama’s seven congressional districts.

BREAKING: A federal court blocked Alabama from implementing a congressional map that intentionally discriminates against Black voters. This is a victory for fair representation.

How is this decision not going to be reversed by SCOTUS?

That is great. Let’s hope Roberts does the right thing. cbwrong.blogspot.com?m=1

Until SCOTUS overturns it. In order to have nice things, we need to expand this court. I’m not talking about permission to do so, or trying to remove any of the current justices. I’m talking about appointing new judges and having them simply show up to work. Expand SCOTUS.

You need to wait for SCOTUS to rule before getting too excited. Yes, this is a hopeful sign — but this iteration of SCOTUS is hellbent determined to push GoP/MAGA/Trumper talking points to the max. The way it works now, SOCTUS gets final say. So don't get too excited. Yet. @marymcnamara.bsky.social

A victory until the SCOTUS overturns it. 😡😡

Hallelujah. But the question is, is Alabama going to appeal?

Thank you ACLU and team for all of your hard work!

I imagine it'll go to the Supreme Court. I have no faith in that court.

SCOTUS may not agree on your synopsis.

A free country where one enjoys life, liberty, voting rights, civil rights, human rights, freedom of speech… oh, wait, i thought i was in America… but i’m in ala-fucking-bama. And it’s such a beautiful place with a lot of wonderful people.. what the fuck went wrong there? oh yeah, racism.

The Supreme Court will move at lightning speed to disenfranchise black voters. You watch.
