TCM Party screens The Blues Brothers
Turner Classic Movies hosted a scheduled TCM Party screening of The Blues Brothers, with host Ben Mankiewicz appearing in Blues Brother attire. The 1980 film stars John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd and delivers set-piece moments such as the diner scene and the chain-reaction car chases. The soundtrack and on-screen performances feature soul legends and Stax session players, including Steve Cropper and Duck Dunn of Booker T and the MGs. The screening highlights the film's blend of comedy and reverent soul and why it remains a touchstone for music and film fans.
John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd in "The Blues Brothers", 1980. Thank you, TCM.
The Blues Brothers was a huge boost to the exposure of artists like Aretha/Ray/James Brown/Cab Calloway/all other artists in the album. It reminded the old audience and introduced them to a new younger audience at the same time. and they did it because they knew Dan and John were the real deal. ❤️
Back when America thought the Nazis were the bad guys.
On my top 10 movie list. "We're on a mission from God' line was the best.
I'm watching right now! I've watched this at least 150 times since it's release. Hilarious!
We're on a mission from God.
When is Pope Leo going to canonize Jake & Elwood?
I loved the film concept of preserving some of those legends of blues.
One of my favorite Halloweens was when my sister and I went as The Blues Brothers. No one had to ask us who we were.
Jake and Elwood, mid-mission from God.
If I had one movie that I was allowed to watch for the rest of my life and only one movie it might just be this one. Great music and jokes too? Record amount of car crashes at the time and Nazi bashing? Tough to beat
I was an extra in this film in two sequences. You can see a quick shot of me dancing in jail at the end of the movie. Landis had six cameras rolling for those shots. Six. I also got to sit at the Palladium for two days and watch Cab Calloway perform.
Now, “The Old Landmark” is going through my head. 🎶
The Ex with, what was it?, an AK-47, after setting off a gas tank with a flame thrower after just missing with a rocket launcher. ….. Carrie Fisher was never sexier.
This was like 25% of TBS programming back in the day.
W'ere on a mission from god
just watched it again, still can't get enough of that iconic Soul Food Cafe scene
Carrie fisher and John Belushi on the set of 'The Blues Brothers'. #TheBluesBrothers #TCMParty
You just know she had fun
I had a blue Pontiac Grand Prix like the one she drove in the movie! 💙🥰
Saw this movie in the Costa Rican outback, in a restaurant whose roof was mounted on poles – no walls. In quiet moments you could hear tropical wildlife calling in the dark jungle around us. Surreal and awesome way to revisit my favourite film.
In putting together the trailer for my podcast (by weird coincidence do The Blues Brothers), I used some of those shots -- if I'm recalling what I saw online, in that first one, Aykroyd is directly to Fisher's left.
I was a kid when they filmed this in Chicago. The city just let them do whatever they wanted. LOL #TheBluesBrothers #TCMParty
Let them destroy a bunch of old cop cars and a literal mall carte blanche 😂
Just did a podcast on the movie -- their budget went $8M or so past the original budget b/c of all the shots on the Chicago streets! It didn't help that Landis went back and reshot part of the climactic chase b/c he thought it looked bad first time out.
Lived up in north Arlington Hts, not far from where I-53 came to an abrupt end (well, it did back then!). Shots of the state troopers' cars was filmed there. We felt so special that it was local!
