SAVE America Act fails in Senate, 48-50
The Senate rejected the Trump-backed SAVE America Act, 48-50, with Republicans Thom Tillis, Lisa Murkowski, Mitch McConnell, and Susan Collins joining Democrats to block the measure. The bill would have imposed a national citizenship requirement for voter registration, forcing Americans to provide documents like passports or birth certificates to register. Supporters framed it as a sweeping election overhaul and a top congressional priority for former President Donald Trump, while opponents said it would make registration harder for people who lack easy access to those documents. Its defeat preserves state-based registration rules and marks a political setback for lawmakers pushing a uniform federal standard.
🚨BREAKING: The Senate blocked another Republican attempt Thursday to attach the anti-voting SAVE America Act to an immigration funding package, marking the second failed GOP effort to move the sweeping voting restrictions bill through the chamber. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...
Jesus Christ - is that Lindsey Graham!? He looks 112 years old.
And ONLY 4 GOP (under 10%) were willing to stand up against this BS legislation, while EVERY DEM did. The parties are NOT the same…
There is a reason why republicans are so afraid of the people voting! It has nothing to do with illegals voting (doesn’t happen) it is because they can’t win the populist with policies and good governing…. So cheat…
Look at the state of Lindsey Graham and he's only my age!
The SAVE ACT is the best ACT, it's a perfect ACT and Trumpy totally believes WE NEED the SAVE ACT. Sure, women don't really need to vote, right? But Trumpy feels that if we enact the SAVE ACT, he'll have done a GOP dream, to repeal the 19th Amendment. He's working tirelessly.
The best part: "Republicans didn’t even have a simple majority for the proposal."
Lindsey Graham by this time next month:
They really need to pass a law to require all bills in the House and Senate to stand alone. This would not only increase efficiency in the discussion and voting on bills, but prevent sneaky attempts to conceal one bill inside another.
The GOP trying to officially suppress voting by millions of Americans and doing so by means of subterfuge and sneaking this horrendous bill into another one. Politics and propaganda and Project 2025 wrapped up a neat GOP package.
Ding Dong the CULT is dead which old Cult, the dumb Trump cult! Ding Dong the rich old cult is dead! 💀 Ding Dong you sleepy head, rub your eyes, get out of bed. I can’t wait until they’re all nothing but footnotes in HISTORY books!
Their idea of SAVE is akin to putting the kittens in a gunny sack with an anvil and throwing it in the river.
Look at sad ‘lil Lindsey next to Thune.
Something positive, but as always, I am waiting for the unfunny and depressing punchline.
Voting restriction is UNAMERICAN.
The GOP is the enemy of the people.
Great news @marcelias.bsky.social! Keep them coming and nothing but respect for all the work you and your colleagues do!
Lindsey, one sorry ass just as like he looks here
Lady Lindsey looking a bit haggard next to Thune in that pic. Out late at the truck stop glory hole last night
Geezus, Graham has aged... Badly.
Poor Lyndsey couldn't deliver on that voter suppression bill. If he keeps that up he won't be playing golf with Trump very much.
Is Lindsey shrinking? Or is it just because that body no longer contains a soul?
Why do they keep adding this POS bill to any other bill 🤬🤬
Did Lindsay just age 20 years? Jeezuz!
Lindsay looks more and more like a worn out queen
I heard an update in the middle of the afternoon of how Thune was in a huddle with R dissenters and then stormed out of the chambers without talking to press. Graham walked out of the chambers, too, without talking to press. Unhappy boys.
Geez… Lindsey’s been a US Senator since 2003. And before that he was in the US House of Representatives, from 1995-2003. This voter repression stuff is giving his state a bad reputation. Isn’t it time for a change?!?
The nazi SAVE act requires a separate nazi approved Proof of citizenship like a passport. Only half of Americans have a passport...the wealthy half. Just admit this is voter suppression.
Republicans have gone against Trump on the SAVE Act, Ukraine Aid, and the $1.8 billion terrorist slush fund. I know it's not much but these are cracks...
And how many times has he lost in court? The Judiciary is also going against him. He's a lame duck. His presidency is over. He doesn't have the juice anymore. The gravitas has faded.
“That’s how the light gets in.” Leonard Cohen
Every crack is a place for light to come in. I hold onto that every time it feels like this nightmare will never end.
You can thank Dems for plugging away at potential fissures.
Baby steps - I'll take any we can get. I am not giving up hope.
Trump is a lame duck plus he’s old man! Let’s see what happens!
Is it time to put the "authors" of P2025 under the microscope?
Democracy WINS, Trump and authoritarian fascism LOSE. The SAVE America Act has been defeated in the Senate. 🙌🙏💪✊
Did not have Mitch on my bingo card for this.
Apparently some Trumpublicans are trying to save their name in future history books.
I cant believe it! They finally did the right thing!
I should thank those for #Republican s but at every turn each one of them has stabbed Us in the back in the last 4 years. Someone else can thank them.
Mitch McConnell being one of the Republicans is WILD!!!!
Republicans couldn't get the Save Act through legitimately, so they are trying to sneak it in through the budget.
For those outside the USA, we have never had a crisis of nationwide illegal voting. This bill ONLY serves to make it harder for the poorest amongst us to vote. Despite what some people online tell you, voting matters. Otherwise Republicans wouldn't work so hard to take it away.
They'll find a way to soft-repeal the 19th Amendment if it's the last thing they do.
Well, time to close the government again.
Almost 1/2 the states including mine passed this in 2024. They put it on our ballot with deceptive wording. Even today, most ppl I talk to say that wasn't on the ballot. When I asked them if they checked the question "Should you have to be a citizen to vote in the US?" they say yes. They didn't know
Senate Republicans just tried to sneak the SAVE America Act into their ICE funding bill Senate Democrats will not let voter suppression legislation pass now OR EVER. @padilla.senate.gov with the facts.
Senate Republicans dishonor their oaths of office every single day, without batting an eye.
I would think that every time the Corporate Ds' Vote against Roe Codification, Permanent Student Loan Cancellation, M4A, or Gun Control, that it would be considered Voter Nullification since about 70% of America want all these things, only their Donors do not #DumbLiberals
www.npr.org/2026/06/04/n... The SAVE America Act, a far-reaching Republican election overhaul that Trump said should be his congressional allies' top priority, has officially failed in the Senate.
Goodbye SAVE ACT! Definitely a huge win for the entire country. Even the gullible should be grateful for this!
The election proposal would have taken effect immediately, even as voting is underway in congressional primaries. Notably, the legislation would have required voters to show a document proving their U.S. citizenship, like a passport or a birth certificate, when they registered to vote. #Pinks
