Mike Lee lashes out after Pentagon omits LDS from Christian list
Senator Mike Lee publicly lashed out at the Pentagon and singled out Pete Hegseth after a Pentagon policy overhaul removed The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from a list of recognized Christian faith groups. The omission was recorded in an updated Pentagon document used to categorize faith groups for internal policy and accommodation purposes and no longer listed the LDS Church among Christian denominations. Lee called the change an affront to his faith, saying it undermines military chaplaincy access and strains GOP ties with Mormon conservatives.
I find it curious that Mike Lee is now taking the position that the government should not be weighing in on matters of religious doctrine, despite joining an amicus brief in the Fifth Circuit that urged the court to uphold the Ten Commandments in public schools, now that he's on the receiving end.
