Disclosure Day, Spielberg's new summer film

I know you're all watching the game but just wanna let you know that DISCLOSURE DAY is fucking incredible. Like, right, THIS is what a big-budget four-quadrant summer studio movie can be, I kinda forgot

DISCLOSURE DAY isn’t what I expected. Spielberg’s given us spectacle before. This is human spectacle. This is emotion and truth, and an urgency that must be paid attention to. This is Spielberg begging us to pay attention to our world, and each other. It’s beautiful, and I am vibrating with joy.

Emily Blunt tells us she studied real-life alien sightings for ‘DISCLOSURE DAY’. “I just had nothing to springboard, to base [my character on] other than watching endless documentaries about people who have experienced something and the reality of what that felt like for them.”

Arrived at the bar after DISCLOSURE DAY premiere juuuuusttt in time to see Bloomberg take a ball to the face. What a magical city. Mike just told me Trump fell asleep??? I’m out of body.

Loved DISCLOSURE DAY even more on 2nd watch. Think maybe Spielberg's faith in human empathy, in powers who're supposed to protect us, & in media had been shaken recently. And through his unwavering belief in extraterrestrial beings, he tries to restore it here. Extraordinary. 👽🛸

Between this and The Fabelmans, Spielberg is popping an exhilarating, stunt-choreographed wheelie on Tarantino's theory that elderly directors can't make great movies.

DISCLOSURE DAY: Breathlessly yet patiently paced, fueled by a fiercely beating battle cry for empathy even (and especially) as the world burns. Leave it to a master like Spielberg to show what magic and majesty movies can still have if big-budget films can breathe and provoke rather than placate.

Was hoping #DisclosureDay would be helpful for the master’s dissertation I’m writing, which is partly on Spielberg and religious re-enchantment. In fact, the movie may have made it redundant.

I can't tell you where I fall on it, but DISCLOSURE DAY will be divisive as fuck.
