US Postal Service to withhold mail ballots if states refuse to hand over voter lists

politicsJun 10, 20261066

Under a Trump directive, the U.S. Postal Service would stop delivering mail ballots to states that refuse to hand over voter registration lists to federal officials. The plan conditions delivery of absentee and mail-in ballots on state compliance, and 23 Democratic-led states plus the District of Columbia have filed lawsuits to block it. State officials say forcing disclosure of voter rolls raises privacy and security concerns and would force them to choose between withholding lists and losing USPS ballot service. If implemented, the policy would interrupt mail voting access for millions and trigger lengthy legal battles over federal authority in election administration.
