Pakistan mediator says U.S.‑Iran peace deal 'closer than ever'

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, mediating talks between Washington and Tehran, said Saturday that a U.S.-Iran peace agreement was "closer than ever before" and could be finalized "in the next 24 hours." U.S. President Donald Trump said the deal would be signed on Sunday and that it would reopen the Strait of Hormuz, while Iran’s foreign ministry disputed that timeline but said a signing could occur "in the coming days." Pakistan said it was preparing for an electronic signing followed by technical level talks next week, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel was not a party to the proposed deal. If enacted, the agreement would formally end the war in the region, potentially reopening a vital shipping route and reshaping oil and security dynamics across the Middle East.
