Iran says draft US deal includes oil sanctions waiver, nuclear limits and asset release

newsJun 14, 202616215

A senior Iranian official told Reuters a final draft memorandum of understanding with Washington would grant a temporary U.S. waiver on oil sanctions, impose limits on Tehran’s nuclear activities, release about $25 billion in frozen Iranian assets, and reopen the Strait of Hormuz to shipping. The draft also envisions Washington coordinating a reconstruction and development plan for Iran to be negotiated with Tehran within 60 days of a final agreement. If implemented, the package would restore Iranian oil exports, inject substantial funds into Tehran’s economy, and ease a major maritime chokepoint, reshaping energy markets and regional security dynamics.
