Hillary Clinton says Biden’s 2024 reelection was 'a terrible mistake'

politicsJun 16, 2026151,039

Hillary Clinton said Monday that Joe Biden's decision to run for a second term in 2024 was 'a terrible mistake for himself, for his legacy, and for the country.' She argued that had Biden announced he would not run, the winner of a genuine Democratic primary 'would have beaten Donald Trump.' Clinton blamed Biden's candidacy for costing Democrats the 2024 election and called the result a consequence of the party's nomination choice. Her assessment matters because, as the 2016 Democratic nominee, Clinton's verdict carries weight in discussions about how the party should choose future presidential candidates.

Relitigating Biden's decision to run in 2024 is an excellent use of everyone's time, and I'm delighted the NYT is brave enough to give it oxygen

If the former president had “passed the torch” and allowed a competitive Democratic primary in 2024, she said in a new interview, the winner “would have beaten Donald Trump

I'm surprised they took time out from the full-time job of sneering at Mamdani while sane-washing the Administration.

SusanneMc17

I really wish Hilary would just go away. She’s not helping anyone here. Enough already. Exit..stage left. 😒

Christa12

The NYT would be so much better in so many ways if they just ditched their entire Opinion section

Winnie Frolik12

Any of them offering any opinions about Trump's mental/physical fitness?

Shaenon K. Garrity9

"This is the Democrats' fault for not stopping us from doing everything in our power to elect Republicans" oh fuck off

Noelle Schultz4

The Trump verdict was in 10 years ago. Also “not pretty.” In fact, it’s ghastly. Good Lord, who cares about Biden now? Move on already, NYT.

Paddy_boy3

Just in case you were wondering why Biden didn’t trust the NYT😑

Tomato Szn3

Lazy by the NYT, only going back 2 years. the WSJ today was blaming this all on Obama 10 years ago.

𝙵𝚕𝚊𝚗𝚗𝚎𝚕𝙴𝚗𝚒𝚐𝚖𝚊3

Give it a rest already. Look at the senile dude in office now

Mina2

Hillary can STFU along with her sidekick David Axelrod.

Glenn Waldorf2

Bloody hell, if the NYT REALLY fucking wants to relitigate anything from the Biden administration, they should be harshly criticizing him/them for all of their pathetically disastrous FAILURES at attempting to meaningfully prosecute/punish Republicans and Trump

Midatlantica2

What these pieces never cite is a single example of where a candidate swap with an unpopular incumbent worked. Because it never worked. The only time it did work in the last 100+ years was Roosevelt-to-Taft but TR was very popular at the time

Greg Gardner 2

F@<k the pundit lords in the NYT’s op-ed factory.

theescapist.bsky.social2

It lives in this universe of high thinkers that believe democrats main responsibility is to protect status quo against republicans and the left. All bad things are dem issues for not doing better to prevent the result

Hillary Clinton says Joe Biden made a “terrible mistake” by running for re-election. “He made a terrible mistake. He made a terrible mistake for himself, his legacy, and for the country” Clinton said that had Biden said he was not running, the winner of the primary “would have beaten Donald Trump”

She made a terrible mistake running a second time too

Alliance To Restore the Republic23

She made a terrible mistake by rigging it against Bernie

Octavarium14

She is 100% correct and the responses on this post are a perfect reason why a segment of libs have some form of brain damage.

lmao genuinely the least self-aware person in history

Steve Uncle9

What forward-looking analysis. So helpful. Not Monday morning quarterbacking at all. The next time Joe Biden is President he shouldn't run for reelection.

Southern Djentleman8

This is the most "it takes one to know one" thing I've seen all day

cjgaf.bsky.social6

What does this do to stop fascism?

Hirut6

Nobody cares what she has to say anymore, she needs to go away.

Dog5

She would have made that "terrible mistake" too if she was in the same situation.

the authority on losing to trump speaks out

buddhaofnazareth.bsky.social5

HRC is 100% right. Biden made a terrible mistake for himself, his legacy and for the country. Those around him and those supported his second candidacy share the blame equall.

jplaw.bsky.social5

Big fan of HRC, but many would say same thing about her and 2016

Mel Hindin5

Let's re-litigate why she lost to Trump in 2016 shall we.

まり4

Incredible when the truth is so glaringly obvious even the most invested in the project of third way politics can't deny it.

said the least likable democrat not called chuck schumer or hakeem jeffries.

chrsnlrn.bsky.social4

The time to say this, Mrs.Clinton, was back then. Your timing is terrible.

Former_Ice3

I don't know that this is true. If we're going to election autopsy, I think the U.S. is more likely part of a backlash to COVID regulations. Globally, 1st-world countries booted their leaders for not doing enough, then booted the next ones for the cost of ending the pandemic. May've been inevitable.

flyguy3000.bsky.social3

He would've beaten Trump again

TNLiLi aka fieryredhead3

Similar could be said about HRC in 2016.

Gaius (from Tribunate)3

She knows about losing to Trump so I believe her

blondbomber.bsky.social2

I supported Biden 100%…but, tragically, Hillary Clinton is right…I’ll never understand why this occurred.

Erik Smith2

Not sure what the point of beating up on Joe is now.

TM2

Biden was the only person to ever beat Trump.

dreemer24.bsky.social2

It is too much at stake now for them to be dragging up Biden. The present/future should be the focus.

🐸🖕🐸 Heartless Creatures2

When this topic comes up, why doesn't anyone talk about the RW propaganda machine?

The Real The Davey2

This again attempts to take the responsibility away from American voters.
