JD Vance defends Trump's Iran deal on TV, Bulwark scrutinizes claims
Vice President JD Vance defended President Trump's new Iran memorandum on television this week, calling it a "win-win" and arguing it preserves U.S. safeguards. Will Saletan at The Bulwark checked Vance's on-air claims against the memorandum's actual text and identified multiple assertions that contradict the document's language and legal framing. Vance launched the media blitz after a planned Switzerland signing was postponed and pushed talking points that included the memorandum's nonbinding status and claimed protections for U.S. interests. This matters because Vance is the administration's public face for the deal, and factual errors about the memorandum's terms could reshape Congressional debate and allied trust in U.S. Middle East policy.
JD Vance wants to revive the fascism-friendly ideology of the 1940 "America First" movement, and make it central to US foreign policy in the 21st Century, as I discussed in PN.
If you want to know more about the roots of The White Nationalist movement, listen to Rachel Maddow's podcast "Ultra"; it discusses the Nazi America movement and its collusion with the US Senate in the 1940's. This ideology is far from new. It started and has continued unbroken, since the Civil War.
If anyone is interested in learning the history of the America First movement, I highly recommend "Behold, America" by Sarah Churchwell.
JD Vance, once an ‘angry atheist’, is America’s most powerful Catholic. How will he wield his faith? #TheGuardian
The facts are that JD Vance stressed out poor Pope Francis so much it killed him and Pope Bob has already directly corrected Vance to his face for over what JD thinks catholicism entails & I am pretty sure Pope Bob is done with his sorry Republican ass. I think Vance could be excommunicated.
The same way he wields his eyeliner. (With a bit of a heavy hand.)
