newsJun 19, 2026126

The Weather Prediction Center issued Mesoscale Precipitation Discussions 468 and 469 Friday evening, June 19, 2026, flagging heavy rainfall for southern New Mexico, the Big Bend region of Texas, and the central Gulf Coast. The WPC warned of slow-moving thunderstorms capable of intense short-term rainfall rates and rapid runoff, increasing flash flooding risk in burn scars and urban drainage basins. Emergency managers expect rapid roadway inundation, localized evacuations, and coastal commute disruptions where drainage systems could be overwhelmed. Residents and travelers in affected counties should follow local forecasts and avoid driving through flooded roadways until conditions subside.
