TCM Party screens Rear Window, viewers praise Hitchcock climax
TCM Party screened Alfred Hitchcock's 1954 film Rear Window tonight, starring James Stewart as L.B. Jeffries and Grace Kelly as Lisa Fremont. The broadcast highlighted the film's climactic apartment confrontation and rooftop stair sequence, featuring Raymond Burr's chilling stare at camera and Grace Kelly's tense ladder climb in heels. Program notes pointed out production details such as Gerald Murphy designing Lisa's overnight case and Ross Bagdasarian's small role as the courtyard songwriter, the creator of Alvin and the Chipmunks. The screening underscored why Rear Window remains a masterclass in visual suspense and continues to provoke questions about voyeurism and gender power dynamics.
Thelma Ritter, Grace Kelly & James Stewart, star in Hitchcock's (1954) masterpiece... Rear Window, up next.
I could watch this film a thousand times, and still be delighted by Thelma Ritter. She was *goddamn wonderful*...in everything! Shining brighter than Celeste Holm or Bette Davis was all in a day's work for her. ❤️⭐
I can watch this any time I come across it or remember I have it on Prime. And Grace Kelly. Damn! Beautiful and brave & feisty. She was too good for Jimmy Stewart’s character.
Love her dresses 👗 😍
This is one of my top five all time favorite movies. Love it, love It, love it! Of course, I'm not scared during it any longer because I've seen in maybe seven, eight times? But the first time I watched it I was tensed up and scared!
My favorite Hitchcock movie 🍿
One of Hitch's most suspenseful, with Jimmy's voyeuristic gaze & Thelma's sassy wit. Can't wait to see it!
The older I get, the harder it gets to watch Rear Window. You can't treat Grace Kelly like that, Jimmy Stewart!
Grace Kelly dropping in: "Hi. What did you accomplish today, Jeff?" Any other human being on earth of any orientation: "I wrote another poem about your shoulder blades."
Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but the Jimmy Stewart Hitchcocks have not aged as well as the Cary Grant Hitchcocks.
— Worse, Grace Kelly ended up marrying a nobody and quit movies, *sigh* —
He's watching the neighbors and we're watching him being an idiot.
Love that film, but his character was SUCH a dick to her.
Kim Novak says hold my beer.
