Stephen Eustaquio scored a long-range stoppage-time strike in the 92nd minute to give Canada a 1-0 victory over South Africa and send the co-hosts into the World Cup Round of 16. The goal eliminated South Africa and marked Canada’s first-ever progression to the last 16 at a men’s World Cup. Alphonso Davies returned to Canada’s starting lineup for the match. Eustaquio was named FIFA Man of the Match for his decisive strike. The winning goal was the first 90-plus-minute winner in a men’s World Cup knockout game since Nacer Chadli’s 2018 winner for Belgium. Canada will face either the Netherlands or Morocco in the Round of 16 on July 4, 2026.
