sportsJul 4, 202617210

The 113th Tour de France starts today with a 19.6 km team time trial in Barcelona, the first team time trial to open the race since 1971. Teams will race the Barcelona-Barcelone loop with the first start at 17:05 for Caja Rural-Seguros RGA and the final team, UAE Team Emirates-XRG, due off at 18:55. Tadej Pogacar, who has won the Tour in 2020, 2021, 2024, and 2025, arrives aiming for a fifth victory and faces main rivals Jonas Vingegaard and French debutant Paul Seixas. Remco Evenepoel, riding for Belgium and among 31 Belgian starters, is a contender for the overall classification and could claim his first-ever yellow jersey if his team posts a strong TTT. Race organizers and previews describe the opening stage as already crucial for general classification contenders because early time gaps can shape the race and the only individual time trial favors riders like Evenepoel later on. Sprinters Jasper Philipsen and Tim Merlier are also highlighted as stage winners to watch later in the Tour.
