Mall July 4 fireworks modeling shows hazardous air pollution
Not safe to be anywhere near the national mall tomorrow, friends. The name of the company Trump picked for the fireworks, Pyrotecnico, sounded familiar. www.nbcboston.com/news/local/i...
The setup is, as I understand it, going to include more launch sites than normal. Pyrotecnico's safety record doesn't seem great www.wtae.com/article/teen...
Maybe It will happen like that
No competent company would agree to set off the alleged number of shells in that area with people that close.
whoa i just googled the company name and they've been involved in a number of incidents over the years, this was not the first time.
They can’t even keep people safe in general:
Pyrotecnico was the name of my birthday clown when I was 11.
Public health advice if you're in the greater DC area: 1) avoid the entire national mall area — risks include heat stroke and getting blown up 2) run all of the air purifiers you have
Maybe it will happen tomorrow
I keep expecting fatalities and I really wish I could imagine otherwise
They're gonna post the whole Mall on Zillow as a "renovation opportunity."
It’s weird to know beyond a shadow of a doubt that tomorrow is going to be a disaster, without knowing precisely what kind of disaster. There are so many to choose from!
So you’re saying there’s a chance the whole thing could go up right in the middle of his “record breaking” speech?
Just gonna point out again that 850,000 fireworks in 40 minutes = 354.166~ fireworks EVERY SECOND. This is not a normal amount of fireworks.
The American government has like a 50/50 chance of carrying out the largest bombing in the history of Washington DC on themselves tomorrow. I think that really sums up how Trump 2 has been going so far.
Between this, and 30-ish flyovers in very close proximity to National Airport and the site of the 2025 Potomac River mid-air collision between a military helicopter and a plane, this all seems like an awful lot of fate tempting going on.
Good luck everyone! Stay home, stay cool
Said as someone who loves the Mall and has always wanted to see the fireworks from there: Please do not go to the National Mall tomorrow. People are going to die. One bottle of water allowed and four "hydration stations" for potentially 150,000 people when Real Feel temps are 100° at 6 PM is madness
If each hydration station has 10 fountains for drinking/filling bottles (optimistic based on concerts I've been to), that means 3,750 people are in line for each fountain! If they take 10 seconds each, that's over 10 HOURS for everyone to get a drink. This is insane.
I would always watch from the lawn in front of the Fed, an ideal spot outside of security perimeters. No way I go tomorrow night. As much as I love fireworks, fuck that filthy pig.
I went a few times when I was younger and even when conditions were better it was a long day
Hot Topic is definitely going to live up to its name
Also, this mathematical examination of the (eventual) fireworks show is shocking. It'll be too constant to observe and enjoy AND it'll be deafeningly loud for 40 minutes! Oh, not to mention the airborne particulates. chadtopaz.com/essays/firew...
And don’t go to or watch the ballgame either.
They're trying to kill us in every conceivable way.
In a heat wave, DC residents brace themselves for Trump's 880,000 units of July 4th fireworks when we usually experience 20,000. Our mayor has warned of the extreme noise, and severe air pollution, and possible other damage.
I'm so sorry about Trump's relentless assault on your city. My one comfort is knowing that a dumbass who's pumping MORE CO2 into the air was forced by climate change to shut down his pathetic little fair early.
It gets smoky enough on the Mall during a normal display.
Here he goes again wasting money, when so many have so little, and polluting the environment for his ego.
Why is the reason the Mall fireworks/bombardment of DC happens at 11 pm? Is it because Trump doesn’t want to give his boring speech when it is earlier and hotter?
Isn’t the main point of municipal fireworks displays so that little kids can see them?
Because they will be able to blame the low attendance on yet another factor, the late hour?
Normally, they start the evening festivities around full dark, which is around 9:15-9:30. They’re assuming Trump bloviates for 90 min, which is 11.
I'm in Arlington and usually find a spot to watch. Have a few friends who spent $300+ each to watch the fireworks from top floor of hotel. Event was to end at 10:30. Now fireworks won't even start by then. Fireworks usually start @9:00 PM. Disappointing, like everything else from this administration
I thought he was bragging about how he was going to do a massive one in the heat
Trump yesterday said "I'm first in everything." After all, He is a malignant narcissistic sociopath. So on July 4th, Trump has ordered just short of a million fireworks to be exploded at the mall. A million. Normal amount is $20,000. Doing this at a time of War where thousands are dying.
Not to be a pedant, but... Trump is paying $1 million. As per usual, he'll get $20K worth of fireworks. It's Trump loser math yet again.
And he doesn't even know what the Declaration of Independence says! youtube.com/shorts/K3l2X...
America Celebrates Its 250th Explosive Diarrhea Weekend!
that is just the type of flex that tinpot dick-taters with tiny genitals love to make to try to compensate.
Doctors in the DC area are warning people with heart and lung conditions to stay indoors—or even leave the area—after Trump’s massive July 4 fireworks display. With 880,000 shells reportedly planned instead of the usual ~20,000, concerns are growing over hazardous smoke and particulate pollution.
We just need one stray rocket 🤞🤞
Gawd, something has got to do it. Maybe the air pollution will.
Hopefully Melania keeps him outside observing the display, inhaling the smoke & fumes. I just read doctors in DC are warning folks with heart and lung problems to NOT go outside in DC to watch the display, but it could solve so many of our problems in an instant! 🙏
He doesn't give a fuck about people...only spectacle and money
I wonder what NPS's Fire Management Division thinks of this overload of explosives? Risk factor is high with that many going off.
Sparks...fires...not all fireworks go off as planned. I wouldn't go if I was paid millions.
general PSA for folks in All The Fireworks Air Pollution lands that you may be able to check your local AQI with the map below (Assuming someone near you has one of their sensors contributing data) It's what I use for my environmental allergies map.purpleair.com
PS if there isn't a Purple Air sensor near you, I use these to check AQI every day, and they update every hour: www.airnow.gov fire.airnow.gov + use settings ⚙️ to see the smoke plumes www.iqair.com ^ International and you can also use it to check out long term averages for your area/compare
The Watch Duty app also has an AQI alert but you need to turn it on
The smoke cloud will obscure the fireworks in short order — just as it did in 2019. This time, however, the smoke will be FAR more intense. Emergency services need to prepare for mass asthma attacks and other respiratory illnesses. People trapped in the fenced in crowd on the mall will be trapped.🧵
Most of the pretty colors in the fireworks are due to metals combusting. Those then become airborne, fall out of the column and are respired. This event will produce a high concentration as well.
All the animals will suffer the most. There's no emergency services for them, is there?
Something going wrong and causing a stampede mce is my biggest worry. The heat and AQI will make it miserable, it will be terribly planned, and the heavy metal smoke is terrible. Hopefully no one shows.
Wear an N95 mask if near the Mall on the 4th From the Washington Post: Fireworks on Mall likely to cause hazardous air pollution, documents show.. archive.ph/KVkkl
The 2024 NYC fireworks (60,000 shells launched) temporarily made the air quality WORSE than the day we had the Canadian wildfire smoke blanketing the city. I can't even imagine how bad DC is going to be, not to mention how much other pollution they'll cause. nyulangone.org/news/new-yor...
And I feel For all those dogs and cats in DC being terrified for that long
Maybe a gas mask. I wish I were kidding. One Blueskyer overnighted an air filter to her elderly sister, who lives nearby, because of this. She'll be indoors, but still. If it goes off as planned (here's hoping not), the smog will be staggering. Wildlife'll suffer, too.
