Australia vs Ireland, Nations Championship match

sportsJul 4, 202627193

Ireland beat Australia 33-31 in a tight Nations Championship Test in Sydney after the teams traded tries early. The match featured a scramble of errors from Australia and a stronger second half from Ireland, who closed out the win despite lineout and breakdown worries flagged by observers. Fans and pundits singled out Hugo Keenan’s tackle on Mack Hansen or on Noah Lolesio as a pivotal moment that swung momentum late in the first half, and James Ryan drew praise for his performance and PoM talk. Commentators credited Andy Farrell’s Ireland for tightening up after the break while noting Australia under coach Joe Schmidt have improved defensively but remained wasteful in attack. The match finishes with Ireland moving on to a trip to Japan next in the Nations Championship schedule. Several viewers criticised slow TMO interventions and highlighted narrow escape calls that helped decide the outcome.

Good end to a pretty ropey half. All the focus On Here inevitably on Prendergast and he's not been great, but our lineout, defence and anonymous wingers have been far bigger issues (and O'Keeffe really giving us nothing at the breakdown). Game still there but we need to tighten up. #AUSvIRE
