Morocco beat Canada 3-0 on July 4, with Azzedine Ounahi scoring twice in the 50th and 82nd minutes and Soufiane Rahimi adding a stoppage-time goal in the 90+8th minute. The win eliminated World Cup co-host Canada and sent Morocco into the quarterfinals. Canada's manager Jesse Marsch said, “The better team today? I’d rather be us than Morocco.” Canada played without two of its top players because of injury, and observers noted Canada dominated parts of the first half but failed to convert chances. Morocco becomes the first African nation to reach the World Cup quarterfinals more than once.

Marsch is using the national hockey coach tactic of building a siege mentality to the point of absurdity. I think it's cringe but Canadians love this shit. But I also feel the scoreline definitely flattered Morocco so I hope they get fucked in the quarters for this hubris.

Ya know, if Canada had outplayed Morocco I would say "fair, right on" but Morocco barely looked like they'd played together throughout the first half and Canada couldn't get past them and then in the second half they got their shit together. Canada wasn't "by far the better team" at all.
