Kyle Lowry signed a ceremonial one-day contract with the Toronto Raptors and announced his retirement on July 7, fulfilling his long-stated promise to finish his career with the franchise he led to the 2019 NBA championship. Lowry, 40, ends a 20-season NBA career, one of 12 players to reach 20 seasons and one of two point guards to do so, after posting a video and speaking at a news conference in Toronto where teammate Kawhi Leonard was spotted in the audience. Lowry wore No. 7 with the Raptors and chose July 7 as the announcement date as a nod to that jersey; he called Toronto home and thanked fans, teammates, coaches and staff in his remarks. Over 1,187 regular-season games he averaged 13.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 6.0 assists, made 2,209 three-pointers (14th in NBA history) and earned six All-Star selections, an All-NBA nod in 2015-16 and an Olympic gold medal with the United States in 2016. Lowry finished the 2025-26 season with his hometown Philadelphia 76ers, appearing in 14 games, and already has a broadcast role lined up as an analyst for Prime Video.
