VAR overturns goal after retrospective review
sorry egypt they only review VAR that far back if it's AGAINST Argentina. Fifa clause.
Double standards in favour of messi and co? Surely not
I genuinely think it goes beyond Egypt, I’ve watched most of the matches, Middle Eastern countries have had no decisions go their way.
For the one on Salah? Didn't look a foul in real-time, but yet to see a replay.
The corruption in favour of Argentina has been strong since the winter of 2022.
Both goals should have stood. But if they’d have disallowed the Argentina one for the contact on Salah, they’d have had to award Egypt a penalty for an offence that wouldn’t normally be enough to warrant one. VAR was brought in to remove controversy, but just creates more of it.
FIFA is so openly biased and corrupt. I don’t know when people will stop them.
an Egyptian player committed a foul in middle school academy soccer which led to his pro career and thus to his call up to the national team so VAR review confirms a foul in the buildup. no goal
don’t worry an even cleaner egypt W just dropped
They're now consulting the VAR precogs to determine whether it's a one or two-goal penalty for Ziko's foul in an upcoming game
I am not trying to make any extended commentary because I have absolutely no stake in this, but y'all are making some incredible content during these matches and I am here for every second of it. Thank you for sharing your passions. It is a joy to behold.
Waiting to see how they call this one back...
if we're gonna keep VAR we have to make it much more theatrical. goal stands should result in fireworks and a barrage of hot dog cannons. goal disallowed needs to be accompanied by a deep evil cackle sound affect and one random section of the stadium getting slimed.
Need the sad trombone sound piped extra loud through the stadium speakers on a disallowed goal too
Goal disallowed gets a video of the play on the Jumbotron with Yakety Sax dubbed over.
Set pieces have been replaced with legends of the hidden temple
Humble suggestion: unretire the Whammies
The attacking player fouled the defender, free kick, goal disallowed youtu.be/_asNhzXq72w?...
VAR says an uncalled foul in a Group 2 match between Scotland and Yugoslavia in the 1974 World Cup would have resulted in a disallowed goal, thereby altering the course of soccer history. Decision: Egypt is immediately disqualified. The Soviet Union is required to play the rest of the second half
I would love to hear a FIFA official explain why Argentina got that VAR review on Egypt’s goal scoring play and not vice versa. Not even why they didn’t grant Salah the penalty; maybe they wouldn’t have. But why no review? Why yes for one team and not for another?
Even if the ref didn’t think it was a foul, what’s the harm of looking in the interest of fairness? He didn’t initially think Egypt committed a foul either. It’s the game-deciding play. Why not just look? I don’t think there’s any justification
I think we all know why.
The challenge on Salah *might* have been given as a foul if it was outside the penalty area, but would never be considered enough to justify a penalty. It’s an anomaly — might VAR and the ref have acted differently if it had been outside the box?
yeah, no review there was not a good look. the egyptian goal that was nullified earlier was the right call, but egypt obviously deserved the same chance (espcially since the situations were so similar). the refs were pretty good overall during the game, but that last call might have been a mistake.
Exacty. The refereeing is not consistent even WITHIN the games for the different teams, much less between games. Things called in one game are not called in another. Things called for MESSI are not called for other players.
I’m not having fun. It’s not “electric” to see a referee overturn a goal via a VAR review on a foul he’d not been giving all game. It’s not fun to see the same referee suddenly keen to give soft fouls in the closing stages to a team seeking to waste time & disrupt any momentum by winning free kicks
I’m fine with “bad” refereeing if it stays consistent, but that fella seemed to want to be the protagonist, and what he would and wouldn’t call shifted in different stages of the game. Hated watching it. Loved the football we saw, but hated the football he shaped.
A truly gutless refereeing performance. The moment was too big for him.
The whole tournament is stained with corruption, fans will tolerate what they want
