Karolína Muchová beat Naomi Osaka 7-6(4), 6-4 to reach her first Wimbledon semifinal and will meet Coco Gauff in the last four. Muchová had exited in the first round in each of her previous four Wimbledon appearances but underlined her grass-court credentials by serving well and outlasting Osaka from the back of the court. She serve-and-volleyed eight times in the first set and won six of those points, and 40 percent of her first serves in that set were unreturned versus 33 percent for Osaka. Osaka, who had ousted world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the previous round, began the match by losing her first two service games and was eventually broken in the second set after a sequence of ace, double-fault, ace, double-fault culminated in a missed overhead. Muchová saved a break point at 5-5 in the first set with a forehand winner, then used a strong unreturned first serve to open up the tiebreak she won 7-4. The victory advances Muchová to a semifinal against Gauff and ends Osaka’s run at the quarterfinal stage.
