Alexia Putellas signs with London City Lionesses
'While the NWSL’s parity can’t be denied, the sources said that Putellas felt the WSL offered higher-quality opponents and a better overall environment...' she's not wrong, what are you gonna do about it nwsl www.nytimes.com/athletic/743...
'The NWSL’s front office also reached out to her representation, extolling the benefits of what the league could offer on and off the field... . They cited the league’s parity, protections in the collective bargaining agreement, and the introduction of the HIP rule...' it's. about. the soccer.
Prioritizing parity means you can only be as good as your weakest member, and the NWSL has some ownership groups who have expressed zero interest in trying to be a globally elite club. That's going to hold the whole league back.
lower the salary cap even more?
like i don't know what there is to discourse about. some teams are doing great and also louisville doesn't currently have a strength and conditioning coach
the bottom half the WSL objectively is much worse than the bottom half of the NWSL but she's gonna love the professionalism of a frozen pitch at Dagenham in March so i get it.
I...the answer is right on the tip of my tongue...something about raising or lifting something...hmm, what could that be?
Live from New York — Alexia to London City is official. www.nytimes.com/athletic/743...
“Two sources familiar with Putellas’ thinking said she ultimately found the WSL to be a better fit for top players than the US’s top flight. While the NWSL’s parity can’t be denied, the sources said that Putellas felt the WSL offered higher-quality opponents and a better overall environment.” Ope.
A good way to promote your London-based club signing one of the best players in the world, a club fighting a near-impossible battle against historic footballing institutions in the same saturated city, is to announce the deal from **reads hand** New York during a men's World Cup.
The number of questions that Michele Kang is getting compared to Alexia Putellas at a live press conference of Putellas' signing announcement is astonishing.
Outside of Jen Beattie opening up the conference, it took like 10-12 minutes before a question was directly asked to Putellas by a reporter, so thanks to @meglinehan.com
Was lucky enough to be at the Rodman announcement in person, there were definately sports business related questions, but this was kinda crazy lol
