Manchester United agree £48m deal to sign Andrey Santos from Chelsea

Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Andrey Santos from Chelsea for £48 million plus £2 million in easily achievable add-ons, with Chelsea retaining a 10 percent sell-on clause. The 22-year-old midfielder, capable of playing as a number 6 or number 8, has agreed personal terms and Chelsea have given him permission to travel to United for a medical. Santos is under contract at Chelsea until 2030 and made 43 appearances across all competitions in 2025-26, recording three goals and four assists. He has six Brazil caps but was not included in the recent World Cup squad. Chelsea’s retention of Moises Caicedo, who signed a new contract through 2033, and Santos’s desire for regular starts helped open the door to the move. United have prioritized midfield reinforcements after Casemiro left at the end of the 2025-26 season and Manuel Ugarte suffered knee ligament damage; the club have also agreed a separate deal to sign Ederson from Atalanta, subject to a medical. Santos’s arrival is intended to add progressive passing and ball-winning ability to United’s midfield depth ahead of the new season.
