Manchester United agree £48m deal to sign Andrey Santos from Chelsea

Manchester United have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign Brazil midfielder Andrey Santos for a fee worth £48 million plus £2 million in easily achievable add-ons, with Chelsea retaining a 10 percent sell-on clause. The 22-year-old, who can operate as a No. 6 or No. 8, has agreed personal terms and Chelsea have given him permission to travel to Manchester to complete a medical. Santos is contracted to Chelsea until 2030 and made 43 appearances across all competitions in the 2025-26 season, scoring three goals and providing four assists. Santos has six senior Brazil caps and spent time on loan at Nottingham Forest (two appearances) and Strasbourg (45 appearances, 12 goals, five assists). The Athletic’s analysis notes Santos is a progressive passer who can win duels out of possession and represents a younger, less costly alternative to midfield targets United missed, such as Mateus Fernandes. The move follows United prioritizing midfield reinforcements after Casemiro left at the end of last season and Manuel Ugarte suffered knee ligament damage at the World Cup; United are also closing on Atalanta’s Ederson subject to a medical.
