Red Sox stuck in Chicago after plane issues ahead of Mets game

sportsJul 10, 2026

After Thursday's game in Chicago, the Boston Red Sox remained stuck in Chicago into Friday afternoon because of multiple plane issues, sources said. The team finally departed around 3 p.m. Eastern en route to New York. Boston and New York agreed to push the first pitch at Citi Field from 7:15 p.m. to 7:50 p.m. so the Red Sox could arrive. People with both teams said the Red Sox will play the Mets in Friday night's series opener if they reach New York in time. The Red Sox entered the trip on a six-game winning streak and 11 wins in their past 13 games. The travel trouble echoed an earlier disruption this season when the team had difficulty leaving Denver and landed in Boston around 5 a.m. on the day their homestand began.
