Brendon McCullum sacked as England Test coach

Brendon McCullum has been removed as England men’s Test coach after four years in charge but will keep his role as head coach of the white-ball teams. The ECB said "We now believe that the time is right to make a change for the Test team as we target victory in the Ashes next summer." McCullum’s final Test was the third Test defeat to New Zealand at Trent Bridge, and England will appoint new Test leadership ahead of the next Test series against Pakistan in August. The decision ends the so-called Bazball era that McCullum helped define and follows Ben Stokes’s recent departure from the Test captaincy. Alex Hartley publicly criticized the ECB for announcing the change during the historic first women’s Test at Lord’s. The ECB confirmed director of cricket Rob Key will remain in his position while the Test job is filled.
